Women's Tennis Tops Bates on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, Conn. — The Connecticut College women's tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over Bates College on Sunday afternoon in NESCAC action at Luce Field House.

The Camels picked up their second league win of the season by sweeping through doubles and taking five of the six singles matches. The two NESCAC victories are the most for the Conn program since the 2017-18 season.

Maya Kowalska (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) and Evin Cosar (Shrewsbury, Mass.) set the tone at the top doubles spot, breezing to a 6-0 win to start the day. Sana Bhat (New Delhi) and Asahi Goods (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) followed suit with a 6-2 win at No. 3, and the duo of Marylove Reynolds (Little Rock, Ark.) and Mary Ella Prendergast (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) completed the sweep with a 7-5 triumph at No. 2.

Leading 1-0 after doubles, the Camels took the first singles point as Kowalska defeated Iris Westmoreland in straight sets at the top spot. After the Bobcats cut the deficit to 2-1 with a win at No. 2, Lily Kerachsky (East Greenwich, R.I.) rallied from a set down to take a 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 decision over Avni Bakre at No. 4.

Conn picked up the clinching point at No. 5 where Cosar posted a pair of 6-3 finals to dispatch Lia Swire. Sydney Concepcion (Long Beach, Calif.) and Goods then added tiebreak wins at No. 6 and 3, respectively, to round out the day.

Conn (7-9 overall, 2-6 NESCAC) will next play at Hamilton College on Saturday, April 25 at 10:00 a.m.
