Sailing Concludes Regular Season With First and Fourth Place Finishes

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College sailing teams wrapped up the regular season racing at the University of Rhode Island and the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

At the Southern 7 hosted by URI, Conn claimed victory in the field of nine teams, finishing with 94 points. The A division boat of Caroline McClain (Winnetka, Ill.) and Lily Stemhagen (Richmond, Va.) dominated their division, finishing on top with 37 points. The B division boat featured Grace Popp (Greenwich, Conn.) and Lily Fryling (Nashville, Tenn.), compiling 57 points and finishing third in the division.

At the Admiral's Cup hosted by USMMA, Conn finished fourth out of 14 teams with 151 points across two racing divisions. The A division boat featured five sailors throughout the weekend as Henry Scholz (Lake Forest, Ill.), Maxwell Conor (Dairen, Conn.), Vivian Smith (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.), Madeline Synnestvedt (Cohasset, Mass.), and Cecilia Roe (New Rochelle, N.Y.) combined for 81 points and a sixth place finish. The B division boat also featured five sailors as William Hurd (West Dennis, Mass.), Rory Murray (Nantucket, Mass.), Keegan Chatburn (Lake Forest, Ill.), Charlotte McDonald (Portland, Maine), and Oliver Sperry (Norwich, Vt.) finished fourth, totaling 70 points.

Conn will await their fate for the ICSA National Fleet Racing Championships, with the field to be announced in the coming days, which begin on May 15th in St. Petersburg, Fla.
