MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Connecticut College men's soccer team hit the road, falling to No.19 3-0 on Saturday afternoon from South Street Field.
Conn started the game on the front foot, as Marco Perugini (Medway, Mass.) recorded the first shot of the game just three and a half minutes in, but his shot went wide. Middlebury answered with their first shot in the 13th minute, but the effort was blocked.
The Camels put the first effort on target at 14:11, as Rafael Moro (Lima, Peru) had a good look, but was stopped by Leon Brody. Both teams hunkered down defensively before Max Haberman (San Diego, Calif.) was denied again by Brody.
The Panthers upped the pressure late in the opening half, opening the scoring with just over two minutes remaining. Elias Androus connected with Keegan Harder who fired home to put Middlebury in front 1-0 at the break.
Conn looked to get back into the contest early in the second half, but Perugini was denied by Brody in the 61st minute. However, just three minutes later Middlebury doubled the advantage as Will Sawin finished off a pass from Orlando Cavaceppi-Dove to make it 2-0.
The Camels continued to press looking to get on the board, as Jayden Fokuo (Chicago, Ill.) had a break down the far side, but was stonewalled by Brody. The Panthers extended the lead at 71:41 off a tally from Hamin Kim.
Two minutes later, Conn nearly got on the board as a ball bounced to Max Weiss (Weston, Conn.) who let a volley go, that again Brody got to to keep the Camels scoreless. The Camels generated a few more chances over the dying minutes but were unable to solve Brody as Conn fell 3-0.
Conn outshot Middlebury 12-9, including 6-3 on shots on target, while holding a 5-1 edge on corner kicks.
Casey Shea (Haworth, N.J.) got the start in goal for the Conn, facing nine shots. Six different Camels recorded one shot on goal, while Haberman led the way with three total shots.
Brody picked up the win in net, making six saves. Three Panthers tallied one goal each, while two others chipped in one assist.
Conn returns home to take on Clark University at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon on Silfen Field.
