NEW LONDON, Conn. – Devin Kellan (Greenwich, Conn.) scored 59 seconds into the contest and the Connecticut College men's soccer team didn't look back, running away with a 4-0 win over visiting Clark University on Tuesday afternoon from Silfen Field.
Conn flew out of the gates, opening the scoring just 59 seconds in, as Kellan collected a loose ball in front of the net, firing home to make it 1-0. Kellan nearly doubled the advantage 30 seconds later, but was denied by Jaime Pedraza.
However, Conn got the second goal at 6:40. Charlie Miles (Tarrytown, N.Y.) played a ball over the top to Kellan, who cut in towards the edge of the box and fired into the far corner to make it 2-0.
The goals kept coming for the Camels as Max Weiss (Weston, Conn.) stepped around the keeper and fired home to make it 3-0 in the 24th minute. Conn tacked on one more goal in the opening half, as Boston Childers (Wilbraham, Mass.) notched his first career goal to send the Camels into the break in front 4-0.
Conn controlled the play in the second half, generating a couple of more opportunities to extend the lead, but were content to play out the game, earning the 4-0 win.
Conn outshot Clark 24-4 overall, including 12-1 on shots on goal, while holding a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Connor Smith (Columbia, S.C.) picked up the win in goal, making one save in 67 minutes, while Andrew Lowenhar (Greenlawn, N.Y.) closed out the game facing no shots. Kellan paced the Conn attack with his first two career goals, as Childers and Weiss both tallied one goal, and Miles chipped in one assist.
Pedraza got the start in goal for Clark finishing with eight saves.
Conn heads back out on the road, traveling to Medford, Mass. to take on No. 18 Tufts at 2:30 p.m.
