Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.  (Oct. 17)  ---(Wesleyan University Sports Information) Junior Andrea Hoisington received a penalty corner insertion from sophomore Heidi Halsted at the top of the circle, took a dribble to her right and fired a bounding shot past Wesleyan senior keeper Tori Redding's left pad to make an instant 2-1 overtime winner of Connecticut College in its field hockey game at Wesleyan here this evening.  The Camels ended a three-year skid vs. Wesleyan and won for only the third time in the last 16 meetings of the teams, though Conn holds a 22-19-1 edge in the overall series.

The Camels opened the scoring 7:51 into the second half after a scoreless first period when senior Alison Holland redirected a centering pass from deep on the right by freshman Maggie Schroeder high into the middle of the net just under the crossbar for her second goal of the year.  Just 1:39 later, Wesleyan senior Taryn Murray responded with her sixth goal of the season, finishing off a penalty corner with a shot from the right side past sophomore netminder Becca Napolitano after senior Taylor Wells started the play with the insertion to junior Blair Ingraham, who sent the ball across the circle from the left through a crowd to Murray.  The teams played the final 25:30 scoreless to enter overtime knotted at 1-1.

Hoisington then netted her first goal of the season 11:08 into the first sudden-victory frame.  It was the third straight overtime game played between the Camels and Cardinals in Middletown as Wesleyan took a 2-1 decision in 2010 while Connecticut College emerged with a 4-3 win in 2008.

Shots tonight favored the Cardinals, 17-10, while corners were even more to Wesleyan's advantage, 15-6.  Each team had three corners in overtime.  Napolitano picked up 11 saves in the contest while Redding finished with four stops.

The next game for Wesleyan comes up Sat., Oct. 20 when the Cardinals host Little Three rival Amherst with the winner claiming the 2012 Little Three title.  Ahead for the Camels is a home game vs. Babson Sun., Oct. 21 in a non-conference affair.
