CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Senior All-American Clayton Witter (Douglassville, Pa.) blocked 15 shots and grabbed three steals to lead the Connecticut College men's water polo team (5-12) to a 13-11 victory against Washington & Jefferson College in the third place game of the Division III Eastern Championship played on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
With the win, the Camels matched their highest finish in an Eastern Championship, achieved in 2011 at Lott Natatorium.
The fourth seeded Camels opened the weekend with an 11-7 win against the fifth seeded Bears of Penn-State Behrend. Later on in Saturday's action, the Camels were defeated in a 21-6 decision against Johns Hopkins University.
Saturday night, the Camels dropped a 15-9 decision to the second seeded Engineers of MIT. They closed out the weekend with a 13-11 victory against the Presidents of W & J.
Three Camels were named to the Eastern All-Tournament Team. Carlos Heros (Key Biscayne, Fla.) landed on the first team while senior Sam Burns (Albuquerque, N.M.) and sophomore All-American Rob Spencer (Chevy Chase, Md.) received second team recognition.
Witter finished with 45 blocks, seven steals and one assist in the four matches. Spencer erupted with 12 goals, three steals, two assists and two blocks. Heros reached double-digits with 10 scores, 11 steals and 14 earned ejections and added five blocks and one assist for the Camels.
Burns netted eight goals to go along with three steals and an earned ejection. Brian Barasha (Fredericksburg, Va.) chipped in with five goals, four earned ejections and a pair of blocks. Jason Robb (Winnetka, Ill.) had a hat-trick with three goals, three steals, one assist, one block and one earned ejection.
Nick DiLeo (Coopersburg, Pa.) contributed with three goals, four assists, three steals and four earned ejections. Chris Pielock (Deerfield, Mass.) added one goal. Sam Buchman (Northfield, Ill.) made one block in the MIT match. Jonathan Stark (Portland, Ore.) had two steals and one earned ejection in the MIT match.
The Camels will return to MIT Saturday to face-off against the Engineers in a 6:00 p.m. match up.
