#2 Amherst College 3, Connecticut College 0 Camels will visit Williams Saturday for NESCAC Quarterfinal

NEW LONDON, Conn.—The Amherst College men's soccer team scored twice in the opening 23:16 and went on to defeat Connecticut College 3-0.

 

With the win, the second ranked Lord Jeffs improve their record to 12-0-2 with an 8-0-2 mark in the NESCAC. The Camels had their eight game unbeaten streak snapped and fall to 5-3-6 with a 1-3-6 mark in league action.

 

The Lord Jeffs draw the second seed in the NESCAC Championship and will host seventh seeded Middlebury at 12:00 p.m. Saturday. The Camels finish in eighth place and will visit top seeded Williams College for a 12:00 p.m. game Saturday.

 

The visitors vaulted out to a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of action. Spencer Noon (Farmington, Conn.) was able to beat his defender on the right side of the box chip one in from eight yards out.

 

In the 24th minute of action on a set piece, Ben Norton (Bethesda, Md.) buried a header on a ball coming off of the legs of Jae Heo (Changwon, South Korea).

 

James Mooney (Princeton, N.J.) added an insurance goal in the 55th minute of action.

 

Amherst out-shot the Camels 11-to-3 and held a 6-to-4 edge in corner kicks.

 

Thomas Bull (Montgomery, N.J.) earned the win in goal for the visitors but did not need to make a save. Casey Marini (Hampden, Mass.) stopped one shot for the Camels and was relieved by Max Nichols (Mill Valley, Calif.), who logged the closing 20:42 of regulation.

 

Prior to Wednesday's kick-off, Connecticut College Head Coach Kenny Murphy honored his four seniors: Graham Christensen (Darien, Conn.), Daniel Johnson (Smithtown, N.Y.), Nick Maghenzani (Allendale, N.J.) and Winslow Murdoch (Cropseyville, N.Y.) as they made their final home appearance for the Camels.
