Women’s Soccer Blasts Eastern Connecticut State, 5-0, In Return To Action

MANSFIELD, Conn. – Freshman Jamie Scarpantonio (Glastonbury, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal and was among five Camels to find the back of the net in leading the Connecticut College women's soccer team to a 5-0 non-conference victory over Eastern Connecticut State in a return to action for both programs on Sunday afternoon at Rick McCarthy Field.

The Camels, who were playing their first match since dropping a NESCAC quarterfinal contest to Williams back on Nov. 2, 2019, scored early and often in the lopsided contest. Scarpantonio set the tone by finding the back of the net in the 12th minute by collecting an initial shot which was blocked by a Warrior defender and finishing to the lower right corner of the net. Sophomore Claire Williams (Portsmouth, R.I.) and junior Marielle McEnaney (Orleans, Mass.) added insurance tallies in the 27th and 43rd minutes, and the visitors found themselves comfortably ahead by a 3-0 margin at the break.

Connecticut College (1-0) stayed hungry throughout the second half and quickly scored its fourth goal in the 50th minute when sophomore Mya Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.) sent a hard drive from the top of the box that made its way inside the right post. Junior Sarah Moore (Harvard, Mass.) then added another insurance marker to seal the final outcome.

Freshmen Sarah Hall (Tulatin, Ore.) and Nici Scola (Braintree, Mass.) each made their collegiate debut and combined for the shutout between the posts for Connecticut College, which outshot its opponent by a 19-8 margin and earned all five of the match's corner kicks. Hall also made three saves in the first half. Emily Wallace was charged with the loss for Eastern Connecticut State (0-1).
