Women's Soccer Dominates Roger Williams In 5-0 Home Triumph

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman Kristyn Moran (Hingham, Mass.) set up three goals and five different players found the back of the net in leading the Connecticut College women's soccer team to a dominating 5-0 victory over Roger Williams at Silfen Field on Saturday evening.

The Camels got on the board when sophomore Mya Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.) sent a through ball past several Hawk defenders that found the foot of classmate Mary Parse (Orange, Mass.), who buried it to the bottom right corner of the net in the 13th minute.

Before halftime, the hosts scored two more times off a free kick from nearly the exact same location. In each instance, Moran sent a cross in from the left corner and outside the 18-yard box. Sophomore Alexa Blaney (South Hadley, Mass.) headed home the goal which doubled the margin in the 33rd minute, and freshman Lauren Anastos (Hull, Mass.) provided insurance by heading the ball into the bottom right corner in the 41st.

Connecticut College (2-0) added two more tallies early in the second half with Johnson factoring into each one. The sophomore fired a bullet from outside the 18-yard box after receiving a pass from Moran in the 50th minute and then found classmate Claire Williams (Portsmouth, R.I.) for a strike in the 55th.

Freshmen Sarah Hall (Tualatin, Ore.) and Nici Scola (Braintree, Mass.) combined for the shutout by making one save apiece for Connecticut College, which outshot the Hawks by a lopsided 31-6 margin, and Hall was credited with the victory. Roger Williams (0-1) had three goalkeepers combine to make 11 stops in the losing effort.

Connecticut College and Roger Williams will face off again tomorrow evening in Rhode Island. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
