Women's Soccer Set For NESCAC Quarterfinals At Amherst

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College women's soccer team has earned the eighth seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament. The Camels will travel to play top-seeded Amherst in quarterfinal action on Saturday, October 29 at 12:00 p.m. 

ABOUT CONN 
  • Connecticut College finished the regular season with an overall record of 7-5-3, including conference victories over Bowdoin, Hamilton and Colby. The Camels also earned draws against Wesleyan, Bates and Trinity. 
  • This is the fifth time in six seasons that the Camels have qualified for the NESCAC Tournament.
  • The Camels won the 2014 NESCAC Championship, the only team title in school history.
  • Mya Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.) leads the team with six goals, which is the ninth-highest mark in the conference.
  • Johnson and Lauren Anastos (Hull, Mass.) lead the Camels with four assists each.
  • First year Alexa Weiner (Fairfield, Conn.) and junior Morgan Plouffe (Johnston, R.I.) have been pivotal on defense and in the midfield, starting all 15 games for the Camels.
  • Keeper Sarah Hall (Tualatin, Ore.) has performed well in goal, recording five shutouts. She currently is second in the conference in saves per game with 4.87.
ABOUT AMHERST
  • Amherst concluded the regular season with an overall record 13-2, and have won eight NESCAC games and are unbeaten in their last seven matches.
  • The Mammoths are currently ranked 10th in the United Soccer Coaches national poll.
  • Amherst has qualified for every NESCAC Tournament since its inception in 2000, and have won five team titles over that span.
  • Junior Abby Schwartz leads the conference in goals and assists with 11 and seven respectively.
  • Sophomores Charlotte Huang and Patience Kum have been instrumental to the success of the Mammoths. Huang has been a stalwart on defense, while Kum is second on the squad in both goals and assists.
  • 2021 First Team All-NESCAC goalkeeper Mika Fisher has recorded six shutouts.
THE MATCHUP
  • Conn and Amherst played each other on Oct. 18. The Mammoths won 3-1 on two scores late in the game. Read the full recap here.
  • The postseason series stands at 2-2 with the two teams last playing in the 2017 tournament, a game in which Amherst won 1-0.
  • Conn last beat Amherst in 2019 on the road.
  • Amherst returns 12 participants from last year's NESCAC tournament, the Camels will field 11 athletes with postseason experience.
