Women's Soccer Falls To Tufts In NESCAC Opener

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Connecticut College women's soccer team fell to Tufts 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Bello Field.

In the NESCAC opener for both teams, it was the Jumbos who controlled possession and dictated the offensive tempo for the majority of the matchup. Tufts utilized a strong second half in which the team scored all four of its goals.

Despite the lopsided second half, the game was evenly matched for the first 45 minutes. Neither team could put together any promising scoring opportunities. The Jumbos had the four to one advantage in shots on goal over the Camels.

After the break, Tufts possession-heavy style began to pay off. In the 50th minute, following a Conn turnover, the Jumbos broke through on the scoreboard. Midfielder Maddie Pero found teammate Thalia Greenberg through a gap in the Camels' defense. With an open shot opportunity, Greenberg delivered it into the net past goalkeeper Sarah Hall (Tualatin, Ore.) to give the Jumbos a 1-0 lead.

Just 31 seconds later, Tufts added on when Nic Sommers beat a Camels' defender down the left side. Sommers glided into the box and executed a crisp pass to Erin Duncan who was able to give the Jumbos their second goal of the game.

In the 62nd minute, Duncan again found the back of the net. After Hall was forced to come out of the net to defend against a Jumbo shot, the ball trickled away from the Camels' keeper and right on to the foot of the incoming Tufts junior.

The Camels could not find their offensive rhythm for the remainder of the game although they did manage to put five shots on goal in the second half.

Tufts (2-0, 1-0 NESCAC) added a fourth goal in the 88th minute to complete the victory. It was the first shutout from the Jumbos over the Camels since 2016.

Mya Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.) tallied three shots on goal and Hall recorded six saves in the loss.

Connecticut College (1-1, 0-1 NESCAC) will look to get back on track next Tuesday when the Camels host Coast Guard at 4 p.m.
