Women's Soccer Downs Colby 4-0 on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team picked up their second consecutive conference win, defeating Colby 4-0 on Saturday from Freeman Field. With the win, Conn improves to 6-5-0 overall and 2-5-0 in NESCAC play, while Colby falls to 4-6-2 overall and 1-5-2 in conference play.

Conn (6-5-0, 2-5-0) started quickly, as Morgan Plouffe (Johnston, R.I.) crossed a ball into the box, connecting with Lauren Anastos (Hull, Mass.) who fired the ball home to put Conn up 1-0 3:56 into the game. Colby (4-6-2, 1-5-2) responded with the next three shots, forcing one save from Sarah Hall (Tualatin, Ore.). The teams traded shots for the remainder of the half, but the Camels led 1-0 at the break.

The Mules came out of the half, with the first shot, just under a minute into the frame, but the shot went high. After Mya Johnson's (Old Lyme, Conn.) shot was blocked in the 49th minute, Jamie Scarpantonio (Glastonbury, Conn.) collected a bouncing ball at the edge of the box, firing to the bottom right corner, to put Conn up 2-0 at 49:14. With just over 12 minutes to play, Caroline Camp (New London, N.H.) was taken down in the box, giving Conn the penalty kick.

Ella Gazo (Colchester, Vt.) stepped up to the spot, and put the ball straight down the middle, extending the lead to 3-0. In the final five minutes of the contest, LK Tucker (Marietta, Ga.) found Maya Griffin (Madison, Wis.) who found the back of the net to put the Camels in front 4-0 at 85:21. Conn held on to keep the clean sheet, as the Camels won 4-0.

Colby outshot Conn 10-9, but the Camels led 7-4 on shots on goal, and held a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Hall got the start in goal, making three saves in 80 minutes of action, while Nici Scola (Braintree, Mass.) made one save in the final 10 minutes of the contest. Anastos, Gazo, Griffin, and Scarpantonio all recorded one goal, while Plouffe and Tucker both added an assist.

MK Marshall got the start between the sticks, making three saves on four shots. Madison Genser led the Mules attack, recording three shots with one on target.

Conn continues their home stand, as the Camels host Middlebury tomorrow at 11:30 on Freeman Field.
