Men's Track & Field Finishes Sixth at New England Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Jeffrey Love (Union, N.J.), junior Chris Koskinen (Yarmouth, Maine), and junior Ethan Bush (Hanover, Mass.) recorded runner-up finishes in the 5k, pole vault, and 10k respectively to lead the Connecticut College men's track & field team to a sixth place finish at the New England Division III Championships over the weekend.

MIT took home the team crown with 143 points. UMass Dartmouth finished as the runner-up with 71 points followed by Bates (60), Amherst (53.5), and Trinity (51). The Camels scored 49 team points during the event hosted by Springfield College which featured over 30 of the top teams from the region. 

Love earned All-New England honors in the 5k, finishing in 14:38.51 behind Travis Martin of Trinity. Teammate Matt Carter (Manchester, Mass.) also earned New England honors by placing sixth overall.

Koskinen built off his strong spring season with a second-place result in the pole vault. The junior cleared a height of 4.59 meters to earn eight team points for the Camels.

On Friday evening, Bush also recorded a second-place finish in the 10k, crossing the line in 31:33.84. Teammate Chris Davis (Durnstable, Mass.) finished just behind in fourth place. The two combined for 13 team points.

The duo of Matt Scardigno (Port Washington, N.Y.) and Jonathan Norton (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) earned All-New England accolades in the steeplechase. Scardigno finished third with a new personal best. Norton placed seventh in the event. 

The 4x400-meter relay team of Luke Alban (Piedmont, Calif.), Koskinen, Dylan Haime (Bronx, N.Y.), and Lucas Vasquez (Ewing, N.Y.) set a new school record in the event. The quartet crossed the line in 3:22.40, earning a fifth-place finish.

The 4x400-meter relay team also experienced similar success finishing fourth. Harry Harwood (Woodbury, Conn.), Bennett MacDougall (Wellesley, Mass.), Robbie Lynch (Wellesley, Mass.), and Chris Verstandig (Slingerlands, N.Y.) earned five team points and all-region honors for their efforts.

Select athletes will be back next weekend for NEICAAA Championships.
