Brunswick, MAINE – The Connecticut College women's soccer team's comeback effort fell short, as the Camels fell to host Bowdoin College 1-0 in NESCAC play on Friday night from Brunswick, Maine. With the loss, Conn falls to 2-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play, while the Polar Bears improve to 2-0-2 and 1-0-1 in NESCAC action.
Conn (2-2-0, 0-2-0) started fast, recording the first four shots of the contest, while forcing two saves from the Bowdoin (2-0-2, 1-0-1) keeper. The two teams traded a shot apiece, before the Polar Bears opened the scoring. With just under nine minutes to play in the first half, Morgan Smiley found the back of the net to put Bowdoin up 1-0. The Camels responded after going down a goal, forcing three more saves from Charlotte Iannone, but could not find an equalizer before the break.
Coming out of the break,
Ella Davidyock (Newtown, Pa.) fired off an early shot, but once again Iannone was up to the task. Conn pushed for an equalizer, but the Polar Bears defense hunkered down, and did not allow anymore shots for the visitors. Bowdoin upped the pressure late looking to seal the win, but
Nici Scola (Braintree, Mass.) kept the Camels alive. However, time ran out on the comeback attempt as Conn fell 1-0.
Conn held a slim edge in shots, outshooting the hosts 9-8 overall, including a 6-3 on shots on goal, while Bowdoin held the advantage on corner kicks 3-2.
