CLINTON, N.Y. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team hit the road for a conference matchup with No. 21 Hamilton College, falling to the host Continentals 1-0 on Saturday in Clinton, N.Y. With the loss, Conn falls to 4-4-0 on the season and 0-4-0 in NESCAC play, while Hamilton improves to 5-0-3 overall and 3-0-3 in conference action.
Hamilton (5-0-3, 3-0-3) started the game quickly, tallying the first three shots of the contest, forcing one save from Sarah Hall (Tualatin, Ore.). Ella Gazo (Colchester, Vt.) recorded the first shot for Conn (4-4-0, 0-4-0) at 10:47. However, just forty seconds later, the Continentals took the lead on a goal from Erin Rayhill. The teams traded chances for the remainder of the half, but Hamilton took a 1-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, Conn stepped up the pressure looking for an equalizer, as Clare Mulvihill (West Caldwell, N.J.) fired a quick shot that went high. With just over 15 minutes remaining the Camels had a good chance to tie the game, but both Caroline Camp's (New London, N.H.) and Maddie Lynch's (Noank, Ct.) shots were blocked. Conn continued to look for the tying goal, but ran out of time, as Hamilton came away with the 1-0 win.
Conn outshot Hamilton 20-12 overall, but the teams were even on shots on goal, with six apiece, while the Camels held a slim 3-2 edge on corner kicks.
Hall got the start in goal and made five saves on six shots. Gazo and Mulvihill paced the Camel attack, tallying four shots each, with three and two shots on goal respectively, while Jamie Scarpantonio (Glastonbury, Ct.), Mya Johnson (Old Lyme, Ct.), and Lynch all added two shots.
Nieve Tonna made six saves between the sticks for Hamilton to collect the win. Rayhill tallied the lone goal, while she and Olivia Zubarik recorded three shots in the contest.
Conn closes out their three-game road trip on Tuesday night as the Camels travel to Hartford, Ct. to take on Trinity at 6:00 p.m.
