Women's Soccer Drops NESCAC Matchup at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's soccer dropped their final road game of the year, falling to host Williams College 3-0 on Saturday from Cole Field. With the loss, Conn falls to 5-8-1 overall and 2-5-1 in NESCAC play, while Williams improves to 8-4-2 on the year and 6-2-1 in conference action.

Conn started quickly, recording the first shot of the contest, just 1:41 in, but Chloe Koubel's (Westbury, N.Y.) effort went wide. Williams responded just over a minute later, but the Camels caught a break as Sam Phan hit the crossbar. The Ephs continued to look strong, hitting the woodwork once again, this time the post at 18:20.

However, just a minute later, Williams opened the scoring as Elizabeth Stophel found the back of the net to make it 1-0. The teams traded possession before the Camels had their best look at tying the game, as Conn was awarded a corner kick with just over five minutes left in the half. Alexa Weiner (Fairfield, Conn.) took the corner, but the Camels were unable to capitalize, trailing 1-0 at the half.

Conn was able to generate their first shot on target five minutes into the second half, but Mae Mastrullo (Hudson, Mass.) had her shot stopped, keeping the game 1-0. 12 minutes later, the Ephs doubled their lead as Bria Abbiati connected with Brianna Williams who snuck a shot in just under the crossbar to make it 2-0 at 61:48.

With just over 11 minutes remaining, Conn had a great effort to get on the board, as Maya Griffin (Madison, Wis.) found herself at the top of the box, but her effort went over the bar. Williams added a third goal with exactly 10 minutes remaining from Abbiati to come away with the 3-0 win.

Williams outshot Conn 18-5 overall, including 7-1 on shots on target, while both teams earned two corner kicks.

Ella Kahrl (Wellesley, Mass.) got the start in goal, recording four saves. Five Camels recorded one shot, with Mastrullo putting the only effort on target.

Margaret Huelin got the nod in net, stopping one shot. Abbiati paced the Ephs with three points on a goal and an assist, while Stophel and Wright both added a goal and Kelly Beal recording an assist.

Conn wraps up the regular season with a crucial game against Wesleyan on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. on Silfen Field.
