Women's Soccer Comes Up Short at Emmanuel

BOSTON, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team came up short, falling to host Emmanuel College 2-1 on Thursday from Roberto Clemente Park. With the loss, Conn falls to 4-5 overall while Emmanuel improves to 9-1-1.

Conn started quickly, recording the first shot of the contest just 29 seconds in. Lexi Gudaitis (Topsfield, Mass.) fired the shot, but her effort was stopped by Teigan Robie. Two minutes later Emmanuel got their first shot of the game, but Ella Kahrl (Wellesley, Mass.) was up to the task.

The game slowed down, as both sides looked for open space, but the Camels generated the next two efforts, both coming from Ella Davidyock (Newtown, Pa.) but both shots missed the target. Conn opened the scoring with just under 16 minutes left in the opening half, as Clare Mulvihill (West Caldwell, N.J.) found the bottom left corner of the goal to make it 1-0.

With just under 10 minutes left in the opening half, Conn was given a straight red card, making Camels play the final 55 minutes a player a down. Even so, Conn had a couple of good looks to extend the lead late, but were unable to, leading 1-0 at the break.

Emmanuel started the second half strong looking for the equalizer. Just five minutes the Saints had a good look to tie, but Sarah Dullaghan hit the crossbar. Six minutes later, Emmanuel found the tying marker, as Dullaghan finished off a pass from Ciara Horan to make it 1-1 at 56:01.

10 minutes later, the Saints took their first lead of the evening, as Alexandra Gencarelli found Dullaghan who recorded her second goal of the game. Conn pushed for an equalizer over the final 25 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net, falling to Emmanuel 2-1.

Emmanuel outshot Conn 12-7 overall and 6-2 on shots on targets, while the Camels held a 6-1 edge on corner kicks.

Kahrl continued her run between the sticks, recording four saves. Mulvihill tallied the lone goal for Conn, while Gudaitis added one shot on target.

Robie got the start in goal, making one save in 36 minutes, before being replaced by Gaby Baker who played the final 56 minutes in net. Dullaghan led the Saints with two goals, while Gencarelli and Horan both added one assist.

Conn's season-long six-game road trip finally comes to a close on Monday, as the Camels close out non-conference play, taking on Johnson and Wales at 5:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
