Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Stumped at Johnson and Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Connecticut College women's soccer wrapped up their season-long six-game road trip, falling to host Johnson and Wales 1-0 on Monday night. With the loss, Conn falls to 4-6-0 on the year, while JWU improves to 9-3-0 overall.

Johnson and Wales started quickly, recording the first two shots of the contest, with the second effort at 8:48 getting stopped by Ella Kahrl (Wellesley, Mass.). Conn answered just under a minute later, tallying their first shot, as Katelyn Hardwick (Milton, Ga.) had her effort turned aside.

Midway through the opening half, Conn had a great look to open the scoring. The Camels were awarded a freekick, and Alexa Weiner (Fairfield, Conn.) took the freekick, with the initial shot getting blocked. However, the ball fell to Hardwick in the box, who had her shot stopped, before Ella Davidyock (Newtown, Pa.) had the rebound effort also stopped. Neither side generated much for the rest of the half, as the game was scoreless at the break.

The Wildcats found the breakthrough just under 14 minutes into the second half. Sophia Warburton put a ball into the box for JWU, connecting with Grace Sheehan who did just enough to get the ball past Kahrl to make it 1-0.

Conn had a good chance to find the equalizer, earning a corner kick with 20 minutes to play. On the ensuing kick, the Camels worked the ball around the edge of the box, where Lexi Gudaitis (Topsfield, Mass.) found the head of Clare Mulvihill (West Caldwell, N.J.) who headed it home, but the flag went up for offsides, negating the tying marker.

Conn earned another corner with just over nine minutes remaining, Weiner played the ball short to Emma Ward (East Setauket, N.Y.) at the edge of the box, who turned and shot, firing just wide of the far post. With time running down, the Camels had one last chance, as Hardwick fired towards goal, missing the cage by mere inches, falling 1-0.

JWU outshot Conn 12-11, holding a 6-4 edge on shots on targets, and a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Kahrl continued her run between the sticks, notching five saves. Hardwick paced the Camels with three total shots, including two on target, while both Davidyock and Mae Mastrulo (Hudson, Mass.) added two shots with one on target.

Leah Bragaw got the start in goal, making four saves. Sheehan tallied the lone goal of the contest, while Warburton added an assist.

Conn finally returns home on Saturday, as the Camels host Hamilton College at 11 a.m. on Freeman Field.
