MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team fell to No. 7 Middlebury 2-0 on Saturday from Dragone Field. With the loss, Conn falls to 4-4 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while Middlebury improves to 5-0-3 on the year and 3-0-2 in NESCAC action.
Middlebury had a strong start, as the first shot of the game went high six minutes into the contest. At 12:38 the Panthers opened the scoring as Abby Ward connected with Gigi Day, who found the back of the net to make it 1-0. The teams traded a few chances, including two saves from Ella Kahrl (Wellesley, Mass.), but the game remained 1-0 at the break.
Conn tried to start on the front foot in the second half, but were unable to generate any clear chances. The Camels continued to push, but at 73:23 Ward hit the twine for Middlebury, as the lead doubled to 2-0.
Conn tried to cut the deficit but were unable to solve the Middlebury defense, falling 2-0.
Middlebury outshot Conn 19-0, including 9-0 on target, while holding a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Kahrl had a strong day between the sticks, recording seven saves on the afternoon.
Carolyn Kelley got the start in goal for the Panthers facing no shots, while Ward led the way with three points on a goal and an assist, while Day added a goal.
Conn's season-long six-game road trip continues on Thursday, as the Camels travel to Boston, Mass. to take on Emmanuel College at 7:00 p.m.
