CLINTON, N.Y.– The Connecticut College women's soccer team returned to conference play, falling to host Hamilton 3-1 on Saturday from Love Field.
It was a slow start for both teams, as neither side generated much in the opening 20 minutes. Conn had the first shot on goal of the contest, but Ella Gazo (Colchester, Vt.) was stopped by Nieve Tonna. Hamilton answered with the next three shots, but Yael Bugaev (Westborough, Mass.) answered with the saves.
However, the Continentals opened the scoring at 32:08, as Haley Cramer fired high into the goal to make it 1-0. Conn had two looks at goal at the end of the half, as Caroline Camp (New London, N.H.) put a shot wide and Lucy Hurlbut (Westport, Conn.) was stopped, as the game was 1-0 at the break.
Hamilton doubled the advantage just five minutes into the second half on a marker from Maddie Ledbury. The Continentals continued to press, pushing the lead to 3-0 five minutes later on a goal from Isabel Harvey.
The Camels continued attacking looking to get on the board and they finally did at 67:11. Rian Goertz (Weston, Conn.) played a pass across goal to Claire Chace (Bristol, R.I.) at the back post, who fired home to make it 3-1. Conn pushed looking to cut the deficit to one, but the Camels were unable to break through the Continentals backline again, falling 3-1.
Hamilton outshot Conn 20-10, including 11-5 on shots on goal, while the Camels held a 6-4 edge on corner kicks.
Bugaev made her first career start in goal, recording eight saves. Chase tallied the lone goal for the Camels, while Goertz chipped in an assist.
Tonna got the win in goal, finishing with five saves. Seven different Continentals recorded a point, led by Cramer, Harvey, and Ledbury who all notched one goal.
Conn (4-6-1, 0-6 NESCAC) returns to action next Saturday as the Camels travel to Lewiston, Maine to take on Bates at 11:00 a.m.
