Women's Soccer Claims First Conference Win in 3-0 Victory at Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – The Connecticut College women's soccer team picked up their first conference win of the year, defeating host Bates 3-0 on Saturday from Russell Street Field.

Conn started quickly putting Bates under pressure early. The strong start paid off as the Camels opened the scoring at 19:38. Emma Ward (East Setauket, N.Y.) had her shot stopped by Sydney Litney, but the rebound fell to Claire Chace (Bristol, R.I.) who tapped it home to make it 1-0.

The Bobcats answered with the next two shots on goal, but Yael Bugaev (Westborough, Mass.) answered, stopping both shots. With just under five minutes left in the half, the Camels were awarded a penalty. Alexa Weiner (Fairfield, Conn.) stepped up to the spot and fired home to put Conn in front 2-0 at the break.

Bates had an early look to cut into the deficit, but Eleanor Martin's header was denied by Bugaev at 47:37. Just a minute later, Conn extended the advantage. Ward had her initial shot blocked, but she followed up, firing home to make it 3-0.

The Bobcats upped the pressure over the final 40 minutes looking to get back into the contest. Bates was able to put four more shots on target, but Bugaev had the answer every time, keeping the Bobcats off the board, as the Camels came away with the 3-0 win.

Bates outshot Conn 11-9, including 7-6 on shots on goal, while holding a slim 5-4 edge on corner kicks.

Bugaev earned her first career win in goal, finishing with seven saves. Three Camels tallied one goal on the afternoon, as Chace, Ward, and Weiner each found the back of the net.

Litany got the start in goal for the Bobcats, making one save in the first half, before being replaced by Brady Jacobson who made two saves in the second half.

Conn (5-6-1, 1-6 NESCAC) returns to action on Tuesday as the Camels travel to Hartford to take on Trinity at 6:00 p.m.
