Women's Soccer's Comeback Effort Falls Short at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Connecticut College women's soccer team's comeback effort came up just short as the Camels fell to host Trinity 4-3 on Tuesday night from the Trinity Soccer Field.

Trinity started quickly, opening the scoring just 90 seconds into the contest on a goal from Elena Lindonen. Just over 11 minutes later, the Bantams doubled their advantage as Elsa Deutsch made it 2-0.

Conn battled back just four minutes later. Claire Chace (Bristol, R.I.) delivered a cross into the box from a corner kick. The ball bounced around, eventually falling to Una McCorry (Bronxville, N.Y.) who fired home to make it 2-1. Conn looked to even the score before the break, but were unable to, as Trinity remained in front 2-1 at the half.

The Bantams started the second just as quickly as the first, as Lindonen tallied her second goal of the contest to make it 3-1 just three and a half minutes in. The Camels continued to battle back however. Chace delivered another corner into the box, this time falling to Ella Gazo (Colchester, Vt.) who was able to lob Lily Bracken to make it 3-2 in the 58th minute.

Trinity responded with just over 21 minutes remaining as Iva Carton snuck a shot past Yael Bugaev (Westborough, Mass.) to make it 4-2. The Camels again battled back, cutting the deficit back to one with four and a half minutes remaining, as Lucy Hurlbut (Westport, Conn.) fired home. Conn nearly evened the score a minute later as Emma Ward's (East Setauket, N.Y.) effort went just over the crossbar. That was as close as the Camels got, falling 4-3.

Both teams recorded 17 shots, with Trinity holding a 13-6 advantage on shots on goal, with Conn holding a 7-0 edge on corner kicks.

Bugaev got the start in goal, finishing with nine saves. Gazo, Hurlbut, and McCorry all tallied one goal, while Chace added two assists.

Bracken got the win in net, finishing with three saves. Lindonen paced the Bantams attack, recording two goals.

Conn (5-7-1, 1-7-0 NESCAC) returns home on Saturday as the Camels host Williams at 12:30 p.m. for senior day on Freeman Field.
