Women's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw at Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team hit the road for their final non-conference game of the year, playing to a 0-0 draw at Bridgewater State on Wednesday night from Mazzaferro Field.

The first half was a defensive battle as the teams combined for just three shots on goal in the opening half. Bridgewater got the first effort of the evening as Olivia Robarge forced a save from Maia Kafer (Philadelphia, Pa.) at 7:16. Seven minutes later Conn put their first effort on net, but Ella Gazo (Colchester, Vt.).

The Camels came closest to opening the scoring as with just over six minutes left in the half, Zola Alcaro (Norwell, Mass.) struck the crossbar, keeping the game scoreless. Erin Lee (Rockville, Md.) forced a late save from Logan Levesque, as the game headed to the break all square.

Conn had a good look to open the scoring just five minutes into the second half as Gazo played a lovely ball into Claire Chace (Bristol, R.I.), however, Chace's effort was blocked. The Bears answered back just moments later, but Kafer came up big, making a save on a shot from Anna Rice.

Conn upped the pressure over the remainder of the half and nearly found the go-ahead strike with 10 minutes remaining. Olivia Smith (Medfield, Mass.) had a shot cleared off the line, before Alexa Weiner (Fairfield, Conn.) had her shot blocked.

With six minutes left, Smith played a pass down the wing to Blessing Kieh (Monrovia, Liberia), but her shot went wide of the near post. Neither side found a winner over the final minutes as the game ended in a scoreless draw.

Conn outshot Bridgewater 23-8, holding an 8-3 advantage on shots on goal, as both sides earned six corner kicks.

Kafer got the start in goal making two saves in 68 minutes of action, as Yael Bugaev (Westborough, Mass.) added one save in 11 minutes, and Saylor Redfearn (Middletown, R.I.) played the remaining 11 minutes. Emma Ward (East Setauket, N.Y.) paced Conn with two shots on goal, while six other Camels added one on net.

Levesque got the start in goal for the Bears, recording seven saves.

Conn (4-5-1, 0-5 NESCAC) returns to action on Saturday as the Camels travel to Clinton, N.Y. to take on Hamilton at 11:00 a.m.
