NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team dropped the second game of a back-to-back, falling to visiting #8 Tufts 4-0 on Sunday from Freeman Field.
Both teams started fast, as each recorded one shot on target in the opening five minutes. Maia Kafer (Philadelphia, Pa.) came up with the save in the Conn net, while Una McCorry (Bronxville, N.Y.) forced a save from Gigi Edwards.
Tufts opened the scoring with just under 12 minutes left, as Maren Jones played a corner into the box where Emily Nicholas tapped it home to make it 1-0. The Jumbos doubled the advantage in the dying minutes of the half on a tally from Aoife O'Reilly to lead 2-0 at the break.
Tufts continued the pressure to start the second half as Reese Birch made it 3-0 just three minutes into the half. Conn responded by putting some possession together, before Emma Ward (East Setauket, N.Y.) fired a shot high.
With 27 minutes left the Jumbos were awarded a penalty and Caroline Kelly converted from the spot to make it 4-0. Coon pushed but was unable to find the back of the cage, falling 4-0.
Tufts outshot Conn 25-4, including 11-1 on target, while holding a 13-4 edge on corner kicks.
Kafer got the start between the sticks, finishing with six saves in 69 minutes, before Saylor Redfearn (Middletown, R.I.) made one save, and Yael Bugaev (Westborough, Mass.) closed out the game in goal. Ella Gazo (Colchester, Vt.), Maddie Lynch (Noank, Conn.), McCorry, and Ward each recorded one shot, with McCorry putting her effort on target.
Edwards got the win in goal, finishing with one save. Four different Jumbos tallied one goal, while two others chipped in one assist.
