NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker, falling to visiting Trinity 2-1 on Wednesday night from Silfen Field.
It was a slow start for both sides, as each squad tally one shot on goal in the opening 10 minutes. Maia Kafer (Philadelphia, Pa.) made the save in the Conn goal, while Chloe Koubel (Westbury, N.Y.) was stopped by Zoe Tamborello.
Trinity opened the scoring at 16:14, as Taylor Troskey found the back of the net to make it 1-0. The Camels responded with two more shots on goal, but both Lucy Hurlbut (Westport, Conn.) and Danica Zicha (Belmont, Mass.) were denied as Conn trailed 1-0 at the break.
The teams traded opportunities through the first 35 minutes of the second half, before the Camels got a break. Morgan Lovell (Franklin, Mass.) used a strong header at midfield that rolled towards the Bantam goal, where Zicha won the race and fired home to even the score with 10 and a half minutes left.
However, just three minutes later Trinity retook the lead. Caroline Kelleher picked up a ball in the Bantam attacking third, and fired into the corner to make it 2-1. The Camels pushed over the final minutes, but were unable to find the equalizer, falling 2-1.
Trinity outshot Conn 16-9, while the Camels held a 7-6 edge on shots on goal, with both teams earning one corner.
Kafer got the start in net, finishing four saves. Zicha tallied the lone Conn goal, while Lovell added an assist.
Tamborello picked up the win in goal, tallying six saves. Kelleher led the way with a goal and an assist, while Troskey added a goal.
