Conecticut College 2, #24 Tufts University 1 Patch-Hawkey Connect for Game-Winner in 2nd OT

SOMERVILLE, Mass.-- (Ciara Lawrence, Tufts University) The #24 Tufts men's soccer team fell in double overtime to Connecticut College in a 2-1 NESCAC match Saturday afternoon at Kraft Field.

The Jumbos record now stands at 6-3-1 overall and 4-3 in conference play, while the Camels improve to 6-2-2 and 2-2-2 in NESCAC play. 

The Jumbos took a 1-0 lead with 10:52 left in the first half as Sophomore Monil Patel (Niskayuna, NY) sent a corner kick across the goal which Senior Scott Blumenthal (Simsbury, CT) timed perfectly as he connected with a sliding finish to beat the goalkeeper.

The Camels dominated much of the second half and scored the equalizer when Matthew Bitchell dribbled the ball down the right side of the field and crossed to teammate Daniel Adair who was unguarded at the top of the box at 64:03 in the game.

The two teams were unable to convert on scoring opportunities and headed into overtime tied at 1-1.

Connecticut College scored the game-winner in double overtime as Colin Patch sent a beautiful pass down field which was received by Billy Hawkey. Hawkey was was one-on-one with Jumbo goalkeeper Scott Greenwood (Weymouth, Mass.) and sent it by his diving reach for the golden goal and 2-1 final for the Camels.

Connecticut College held an 11-3 advantage in shot and 5-3 margin in corners. Greenwood made three saves in the loss. Max Nichols had zero saves for the Camels.

Tufts will play out of conference next as they travel to MIT Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Connecticut College will play at Colby tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
