Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College men's soccer team scored five consecutive goals Saturday to pull away for a 5-2 victory against Trinity College in front of 500 fans on Tempel Green.
The Camels, ranked #10 in New England, improve their record to 8-3-2 with a 4-3-2 mark in the NESCAC. Meanwhile, the Bantams, ranked #7 in New England, fall to 7-4-2 with a 3-4-2 record in conference action.
Senior Billy Hawkey (Pennington, N.J.) scored his team-leading eighth and ninth goals of the season for the Camels. Colin Patch (Providence, R.I.), Weller Hlinomaz (New York, N.Y.) and Ryland Hormel (San Francisco, Calif.) chipped in with scores for the hosts.
Max Nichols (Mill Valley, Calif.) recorded four saves and classmate Casey Marini (Hampden, Mass.) saw his first action of the year in relief, logging 14 minutes of play between the pipes.
Malcolm Joseph (Sudbury, Mass.) and Trevor Doolittle (Milford, Conn.) supplied scores for the Bantams.
Domenic Quade (Norwood, Mass.) stopped three shots in the first half of action, while junior Jason Katz (Middleton, Mass.) added six saves in the second stanza.
The Camels held a 21-to-9 advantage in shots while Trinity enjoyed a 9-to-4 edge on corner kicks.
The Bantams wasted little time getting on the board in this one. In the opening minute of play, Joseph weaved his way through the Camel defense and fired one in just below the cross bar.
But the Camels responded in the 19th minute of action. Colin Patch unloaded on a free kick from the 18 yard line with a blast that landed just inside the left post side of the goal. Later on with 12:03 left, Hormel and Hawkey put toghether a nice run in a 2-on-1 situation. Hormel was able to control a ball to Hawkey, who got behind Quade for the Camel goal.
But the Camels were not done. With 4:01 left, Ajami Gikandi (Far Hills, N.J.) delivered a low cross from the left side and Hormel met the ball with a nifty looking header from point-blank range to put the hosts on top 3-1.
In the second stanza, the Camels added to their lead when Hlinomaz dangled his way through the Bantam defense on a break for a goal in the 56th minute of action. Then, with 32:14 remaining, Connecticut College executed on a set piece.
Doug Garabedian (Salem, Mass.) delivered a corner kick from the left side to Hawkey, who found the back of the net for his second score of the day.
The Bantams got one back in the 89th minute when Julian Goksch (Centerport, N.Y.) connected with Doolittle for a score but the hosts were able to hold on for the 5-2 triumph.
Connecticut College will host Wesleyan University this Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. NESCAC game in New London.
