Connecticut College 1, Trinity College 0 Kerr Propels Camels to Victory with Goal in 81'

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. - (Trinity College) Senior forward Dillon Kerr scored the game's only goal as visiting Connecticut College topped Trinity, 1-0, on Saturday in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action.

The defeat snapped a two-game winning streak for the Bantams who move to 7-5-2 overall and 2-5-2 in league play, while the Camels won their second straight versus Trinity to improve to 6-7-1 on the year and 3-5-1 in conference tilts.

The Bantams had a corner kick late in regulation and after a subpar service, Connecticut College broke out as junior midfielder Matthew Bitchell played a through ball to Kerr and the six-foot striker found the back of the net.

Camels first-year goalkeeper Daniel Cui made seven saves to earn his first collegiate victory between the pipes. On the opposite end, first-year netminder Mateo Zabala (Paterson, N.J.) turned aside four shots in a losing effort for Trinity.

The Bantams had the best scoring opportunity in the first half as sophomore midfielder Fernando Cuervo Torrello (Arlington, Mass.) took a pass from classmate Mike Cooke (Boston, Mass.) and fired a shot that beat Cui and clanked off the post in the 31st minute. Following Cuervo Torrello's bid neither team broke through and the two squads entered halftime scoreless.

With the score knotted at zero midway through the second half, Connecticut College sophomore forward Ibrahim Mutala came in on a breakaway, but Zabala stood his ground by making a diving save to keep the game scoreless.

Offensively for Trinity, seven different players recorded one shot on goal apiece.

Connecticut College held a slight 14-13 advantage in shots and the Bantams took six corner kicks to the Camels one.
