BRUNSWICK, Maine --(Bowdoin College) The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team shook off a slow start to defeat Connecticut College, 14-9, on Saturday afternoon at Ryan Field.

The 19th-ranked Polar Bears earn their second-straight conference win and improve to 5-4 (3-4 NESCAC). The Camels fall to 4-7 overall (0-6 NESCAC). The six NESCAC schools that have defeated the Camels have all been ranked among the top 20 in the IWLCA National Poll.

Taylor Wilson and Jordan Smith sparked the Bowdoin offense with four goals each in the win. Lindsay Picard, Megan O'Connor and Betsy Sachs had two goals each. Taylor Thomas led the Camels with four goals in the loss.

Goals by Thomas and Hannah Donegan gave the visitors an early 2-1 lead after ten minutes of play in the opening period. But the Polar Bears recovered from the sluggish start to close the final 15:41 of the half on a 8-1 run, including a goal by O'Connor with one second remaining in the period, to give Bowdoin a 9-3 edge at intermission.

The Polar Bears pushed their lead to 11-4 early in the second period before the Camels were able to trim the lead to five goals, 11-6, following a Charlotte McAuley goal with 18:04 to play. Wilson answered for Bowdoin, however, scoring consecutive goals in a 17-second span to quickly push the lead back to seven goals, 13-6, with 15 minutes to go.

Isabel Sippel made three saves in the win for Bowdoin. Allisa Dalpe stopped nine shots for Connecticut College. The Polar Bears held a dominant 17-6 edge in draw controls, including seven from Betsy Sachs, who also scooped a team-high four ground balls. Maggie Hogan had a team-best three ground balls for the Camels.
