AMHERST, Mass. – The third-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team won its 10th straight game and remain unbeaten with an 11-6 win over NESCAC rival Connecticut College at Gooding Field Tuesday night.

The Jeffs' impressive season continues as they improved to 10-0 overall and 7-0 in the competitive NESCAC. With the loss, the Camels remain winless in league play (0-7) while dropping to 4-8 on the season. All eight of the team's losses were against opponents that are nationally ranked in the IWLCA Top 20.

Rachel Passarelli '16 led all goal scorers with three while senior captains Elizabeth Ludlow and Alex Philie tallied two each. Four other Jeffs scored a goal each with three assists as Amherst outshot Connecticu College, 19-18. Haughton and Heath Cockrell '15 led the Jeffs with two ground balls each while Cockrell had a team-high two caused turnovers.

Lowell Abbott '14 and Taylor Thomas '15 recorded two goals each to lead the Camels. Hannah Donegan '17 scored once and tallied an assist while Tina Balzotti '17 added another goal. Haley Dumke '14 led the team with four ground balls and Caroline Moore '15 had two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

After nearly 10 minutes of scoreless action, Mia Haughton '16 put Amherst on the board at the 20:23 mark on a free-position shot to give the Jeffs the 1-0 lead.

Less than two minutes later, the Camels evened the score as Thomas split Amherst defenders for the unassisted score. However, just 19 seconds later, Ludlow tacked on another Jeff goal to put the home team ahead, 2-1.

Amherst tallied three more scores before halftime. Philie and Passarelli each scored free-position goals at the 11:58 and 6:49 marks, respectively. Shortly after with just over a minute remaining before the break, Haughton found Passarelli in front of the net. The sophomore reached her stick up high to catch the pass and quickly fired a shot into the bottom right corner to complete a pretty play as Amherst held a 5-1 advantage at the half.

Thomas added her second score of the game in the opening minutes of the second half. At the 26:47 mark, she snuck one past Christy Forrest '16 near the right post to cut the deficit to three. Just over a minute later, Abbott added another Camels goal off a free-position shot as they trailed, 5-3.

Meghan Mills '15 recorded the first Jeff goal of the half at 20:00 as she juked a Conn. College defender to find the back of the net. However, the Camels answered shortly after as Hannah Donegan '17 found Abbott for her second of the day to keep the deficit to two goals.

At the 15:58 mark, Devin O'Connor '16 dished it to Philie who was racing towards the goal as the senior captain made a nifty move to send one past Lauren Munhall '16 to give Amherst a 7-4 lead.

After both teams exchanged goals, O'Connor ended up on the receiving end of a great pass from Mills to increase the lead to four and Ludlow tacked on the Jeff's 10th goal on a stellar play to find the back of the net. Both teams added a score in the closing minutes as Amherst pulled away with the 11-6 win.

Forrest started in net for the Jeffs and made nine saves en route to her 10th win of the year. Brooke Cragan started the first half for Connecticut College and Munhall played the final 30 minutes with both goalies stopping two shots each.

Cragan will provided some athleticism for the Camels in goal. The senior from Carlisle, Mass. played two seasons of basketball in the Camel athletic program.

The Camels continue to play close games against nationally ranked competition. All eight of the team's losses in conference play have occurred against a squad that is currently nationally ranked in the top 20....Junior Taylor Thomas (Needham, Mass.) scored four of her five goals this week in a loss to 19th ranked Bowdoin College Saturday...Thomas leads the Camels with 17 goals scored...
