Camels Top Stanford at Pioneer Valley Invitational

AMHERST, Mass.--The Connecticut College men's squash team earned a 7-2 victory against Stanford University Saturday at the Pioneer Valley Invitational hosted by Amherst College in Western Massachusetts.

The Camels opened the weekend with an 8-1 loss to Amherst and dropped a 5-4 decision to Hamilton Friday. Saturday, the Camels dropped an 8-1 decision to Colby before they knocked off the Cardinal from Stanford in a 7-2 decision. They dropped a 9-0 decision to Western Ontario to close out the weekend's action in the Bay State.

In the Stanford win, senior Mike Coscarelli (West Hartford, Conn.) and Matt Lillie (Weston, Mass.) secured 3-1 victories in their respective slots at #1 and #2 on the ladder. Coscarelli vanquished his opponent in the fourth game with an 11-6 win while Lillie won his clinching set by a count of 11-5.

Freshman Daniel Reisman (Santa Barbara, Calif.) rallied to take a five set thriller in the fifth slot on the ladder, posting an 11-7 win in the deciding fifth set of action.

John Dunham (New Haven, Conn.) (6, 10, 3), Niccolo Premutico (Brooklyn, N.Y.)  (5, 1, 6) and Rafael Gamba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (6, 6, 3) all earned straight set victories in their respective slots at #6-8 on the ladder.  

Sophomore Benjie Osajie (Boston, Mass.) posted a 3-0 victory by default in the ninth slot for the Camels.

In the loss to Amherst College, junior Santiago Moran (Bronx, N.Y.) provided the major highlight for the Camels, securing an 11-3, 17-15, 11-4 victory at number nine singles.

In the closely contested loss to Hamilton, senior Brian Mullen (Stamford, Conn.) collected an 11-3, 11-4, 11-4 win in the number one slot on the ladder for Connecticut College. Lillie posted an 11-7, 12-10, 11-3 triumph at the number three slot on the ladder. Dunham and Premutico chipped in with Camel victories in their respective slots at #7 and #8 on the ladder.

Lillie contributed with the Camels' point in their loss to Colby, holding off his foe in a 9-11, 11-5, 11-4, 9-11, 11-9 victory at the number three slot on the ladder for Head Coach Barry Ward's squad.
