HARTFORD, Conn.--The Connecticut College men's squash team won two out of three matches in the College Squash Association National Championship at Trinity College to finish 26th in the nation.
The upstart Camels (12-15) closed out the regular season with seven wins in their final 10 matches.
Competing in the D Division for the Conroy Cup, Connecticut College opened their weekend with a 6-3 triumph over Bucknell University Friday. It was their second triumph over the Bison in the past week of play.
In the semifinals, the Camels outlasted Stanford University in a 5-4 victory. Hamilton College held off the Camels in a 6-3 victory Sunday to win the Conroy Division Crown.
Sophomore Matt Lillie (Weston, Mass.) ignited the Camels in the victory against Bucknell, erasing a 2-0 deficit in a 5-11, 4-11, 11-4, 13-11, 11-4 triumph at third slot on the ladder. Freshman John Dunham (New Haven, Conn.) coasted to an 11-3, 11-5, 11-6 straight set triumph at number five. In the sixth slot, junior Niccolo Premutico (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted an 11-8, 11-2, 9-11, 11-7 victory for the Camels.
Freshman Daniel Reisman (Santa Barbara, Calif.) chipped in with an 11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 5-11, 11-9 wins at number seven. At number eight, junior Santiago Moran (Bronx, N.Y.) notched a 12-10, 11-13, 11-9, 11-2 win for Connecticut College. Sophomore Benjie Osajie (Boston, Mass.) earned an 11-6, 14-12, 11-3 triumph at number nine for the winning side.
In the Stamford win, senior Brian Mullen (Stamford, Conn.) paced the Camels with an 11-5, 11-9, 12-14, 11-7 triumph at the top of the ladder. Dunham posted an 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 11-6 victory at number five. Reisman pulled out a five-set thriller at number seven, prevailing in an, 11-7,9-11,13-11,8-11,11-8 decision.
Moran dispatched his opponent in three sets at the eighth slot on the ladder, registering a 12-10, 11-7, 11-8 win for the Camels. Sophomore Rafael Gamba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed with an 11-3, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9 triumph in the ninth slot on the ladder.
In Sunday morning's championship match, Mullen prevailed in an 11-4, 11-5, 11-4 decision at number one. Moran won in straight sets at number eight, 11-4, 13-11, 11-8.
