Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.--Sophomore Tina Balzotti (Duxbury, Mass.) scored with 1:59 remaining in the second overtime to lift the Connecticut College women's lacrosse team to a 13-12 victory over Babson on the Artificial Turf at Silfen Field Saturday.
Balzotti, who supplied the game-winning marker in last year's 9-8 triumph at Babson, finished with three goals while assisting on a fourth score. Senior Taylor Thomas (Needham, Mass.) had five goals and one assist for the hosts. Annie Cornbrooks (Wilton, Conn.) registered a hat-trick with three scores.
Meg Raskin (Westwood, Mass.) made nine saves in her first collegiate start.
Babson College senior midfielder Rachel Secrist (Westford, Mass.) tallied four goals and three assists in the setback. Kayla Farina, Kiley Fischer and Christine Gill all finished with two scores.
Sophomore net-minder Stevie Burger (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) made six saves for the Beavers.
Farina vaulted the visitors out to an early 4-2 advantage when Secrist assisted her for a score with 23:19 remaining in the first half. But the Camels countered with a 6-0 run over the next 13:26 to build an 8-4 lead. Balzotti and Cornbrooks buried free position goals 35 seconds apart to cap the rally and the hosts carried a 9-5 edge into the break.
But Babson would not go away and with 8:12 to play, Secrist supplied the equalizer to even things up at 11 apiece.
In the first overtime, Babson took a12-11 lead when junior McKenzie Tucci (Winchester, Mass.) put the finishing touched on a pass from Katie McKenna (Sandwich, Mass.).
But the Camels responded when Cornbrooks completed her hat-trick with 34 seconds left in the second half of the first overtime frame.
With 1:59 to play in the second overtime, Balzotti scored the walk off goal to lift the Camels to the overtime triumph.
