Box Score CLEARWATER, Fla.--Cecily Cushman (Marblehead, Mass.) had three goals, one assist and a pair of ground balls to lead the the Connecticut College women's lacrosse team to a 15-11 triumph over Denison University in Clearwater, Fla. Sunday.
The Camels improved their record to 2-3 with the victory. The Big Red, who were receiving votes in this week's IWLCA National Ranking fell to 2-1.
Madison Barker (Boston, Mass.) had a hat-trick with three goals and one draw for the Camels. Anna Jorgensen (Ridgewood, N.J..) and Lacey Hale (Winchester, Mass.) both scored twice in the win. Sophomore Hannah Donegan (Great Falls, Va.) chipped in with a goal, two assists, four draws and four ground balls for Connecticut College.
Sophomore Tina Balzotti (Duxbury, Mass.) doled out two assists while junior Erin Moran (Lincoln, N.H.) collected five draws.
Rookie net-minder Meg Raskin (Westwood, Mass.) made 10 saves while adding two ground balls and a caused turnover in the win.
Sophomore Claire Ludlow (Saugatuck, Mich.) scored four goals to lead Denison in the setback. Senior Erin Keller (Sewickley, Pa.) finished with three goals, five draws and a caused turnover for DU. Halle Walsh (Duxbury, Mass.) had one goal, one assist, two draws and two ground balls for the Big Red.
Junior Laura Van Horn (Wilmette, Ill.) had 10 saves in the cage for Denison.
Keller vaulted the Big Red out to a 4-1 advantage when she scored with 15:05 remaining in the opening half. But the Camels were able to take control of the contest with a key 5-0 run over 7:19 of play.
With 5:22 remaining in the half, Cushman assisted Barker for a goal that evened things up at five. Then, with 4:34 remaining Balzotti was the facilitator on Cushman's goal that put the Camels on top for good, 6-5. Cushman buried a free position goal to close out the first half scoring and the Camels carried a 7-5 advantage into the break.
Cushman opened the second half scoring with another free position goal before Hale closed out the scoring stretch with 28:03 remaining in regulation, tacking on another free position goal for the Camels to make it a 9-5 game.
Connecticut College continued to pull away for the 15-11 win. The Camels held a slim 28-to-26 edge on the shot chart while enjoying a 19-to-13 advantage in ground balls.
