Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn.--For the second time in the past 10 days, the Connecticut College women's lacrosse team gave a nationally ranked conference opponent a scare. In a game that featured seven ties, fifth ranked Colby College put together a 4-0 run late in the second half to pull away from the Camels in a 14-10 triumph.

Colby improved its record to 6-1 overall with a 3-1 mark in the NESCAC. The improving Camels fell to 2-5 with a 0-3 mark in conference action.

Senior midfielder Abby Hatch (Wilbraham, Mass.) accounted for five goals, two assists and six draw controls for the winning side. Sara Miller (Andover, Mass.) had four goals and one assist for the Mules. Junior Abby Hooper (Nahant, Mass.) scored three goals in the win.

Senior net-minder Claire Dickson (Darien, Conn.) made four saves in the win.

Connecticut College senior Taylor Thomas (Needham, Mass.) had three goals, three ground balls, three caused turnovers and one draw in the close contest. Tina Balzotti (Duxbury, Mass.) and Erin Moran (Lincoln, N.H.) scored two goals each for the hosts. Lacey Hale (Winchester, Mass.) contributed with a goal and an assist.

Rookie net-minder Meg Raskin (Westwood, Mass.) made 10 saves in the cage for Connecticut College.

Trailing 4-3 in the half, Raskin made a terrific stop on Maddie Hatch (Northampton, Mass.) on a shot from point blank range to keep the game close with 7:53 remaining.

The Camels then mounted a quick 3-0 run over 2:14 near the end of the opening half to build a two goal advantage. Moran buried a free position goal with 5:54 remaining to even things up at four. Then, with 3:59 to go, Thomas netted another free position goal to put the Camels on top.  Annie Cornbrooks (Wilton, Conn.) closed out the run when she unloaded for her seventh goal of the season with 3:40 to play before the intermission.

Miller got one back for the Mules with 46 seconds left and the Camels enjoyed a 6-5 lead at the break.

The game continued to swing in both directions. Colby scored the first three goals of the second stanza to build an 8-6 lead. Hatch supplied two of the scores before Lexie Perticone (Darien, Conn.) assisted Hooper for a one-timer with 21:19 remaining.

But the Camels were not going away quietly. Balzotti stuffed one inside the near post side of the goal with 19:25 remaining for her ninth score of the season. After Thomas tied things up at eight with another free position shot, the Camels took a 9-8 lead when Hale made a nice entry pass to Cecily Cushman (Marblehead, Mass.), who rifled home her sixth score of the year.

But Kendall Smith (Bloomfield, N.J.) responded when she sprinted all the way in for a goal in a one-on-one situation to force the game's seventh tie at nine aside with 14:12 to go.

Miller buried a one-timer with Hatch assisting to put the Mules on top for good at 10-9 with 12:44 remaining. Hatch capped the late game rally with 9:42 to go, scoring her fifth goal of the day to make it a 13-9 contest.

The visitors were able to hold on for the 14-10 triumph.
