Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Annie Cornbrooks (Wilton, Conn.) scored with just 11 seconds left to lift the Connecticut College women's lacrosse team to an 11-10 victory against 12th ranked Amherst College on a rainy night in New London.

The Camels improved their record to 3-8 with a 1-6 mark in the NESCAC, while the Purple and White fell to 7-4 with a 3-4 record in conference action.

Senior Caroline Moore (Ridgewood, N.J.) had three goals and one assist in the win for the Camels. Sophomore Tina Balzotti (Duxbury, Mass.) added two goals and one assist for the winning side. Lacey Hale (Winchester, Mass.) buried a pair of free position goals while senior Taylor Thomas (Needham, Mass.) finished with one goal and two assists.

Meg Raskin (Westwood, Mass.) made 13 saves in another impressive performance between the pipes.

"I'm proud of the resiliency and the persistence of our team to put together a complete game against a nationally ranked Amherst team," Connecticut College Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Liz Longley said.  "We are looking forward to building on this momentum."

Junior Rachel Passarelli (Hamden, Conn.) scored four goals for Amherst in the setback. Senior midfielder Meghan Mills (Far Hills, N.J.) and junior Mia Haughton (Princeton, N.J.) scored two goals each for the visitors. Mills finished with a game-high seven draw controls in the loss.

Junior Christy Forrest (Madison, Conn.) made four saves for the visitors.

Thomas buried her 17th goal of the season with 13:57 remaining in the first stanza to vault the Camels out to a 5-1 advantage. But Passarelli sparked the visitors on a 4-0 run, scoring her third goal of the half with 1:44 remaining to even things up at five. However, Thomas made a big play for the hosts just as time was expiring when she smartly pushed the ball ahead to Heidi Halsted (Mill Valley, Calif.), who flicked on in at the buzzer to provide the Camels with a 6-5 advantage at the break.

Balzotti assisted Moore with 24:06 to play to make it a 7-5 game. Then Raskin went to work, stopping Passarelli from point blank range with 22:19 remaining. Moments later with 21:41 to go, Passarelli made another terrific move to break free but Raskin was able to come up with another clutch stop for the Camels.

Moore scored two of the Camels' next three goals, catapulting the Camels out to a 10-7 advantage when she put the finishing touches on a pass from Hannah Donegan (Great Falls, Va.) with 5:19 left.

But Amherst would not go away and Passarelli netted her fourth goal with 1:41 remaining to event things up at 10.

On the final possession, Cornbrooks collected a loose ball behind the cage and made a nice wrap around move, rifling one home from just outside the crease to break the tie.

The Camels were able to hold on for the 11-10 victory.
