Box Score DANBURY, Conn.--Junior Tina Balzotti (Duxbury, Mass.) and senior Erin Moran (pictured by Anika Goodhue, Lincoln, N.H.) scored four goals each to lead the Connecticut College women's lacrosse team to a 17-10 victory at Western Connecticut State University Saturday.
Junior Hannah Donegan (Great Falls, Va.) and Lacey Hale (Winchester, Mass.) along with sophomore Madison Barker (Boston, Mass.) all scored twice in the offensive uprising for the Camels.
Connecticut College improved its record to 1-2, while the Colonials also moved to 1-2 on the spring.
Junior Raquel Heitor (Danbury, Conn.) scored four goals to lead the offensive effort for the hosts.
Destinee Carey (New Milford, Conn.) added three goals for Western, followed by junior Meaghan Gustafson (Newington, Conn.) with two goals.
Connecticut College got on the board first with an early goal by Moran off a free position opportunity.
Western then scored back-to-back goals 30 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead after sophomore Lindsey Eanniello (Danbury, Conn) and Carey each scored on free positions.
But Connecticut College responded by going on a 6-0 run over the next 12 minutes to pull ahead, 7-2.
Gustafson scored at the 9:04 mark to cut the lead to 7-3, but Moran's second goal two minutes later provided the Camels with an 8-3 advantage, and 30 seconds later freshman Holly Bertschmann (Sherborn, Mass.) made it 9-3 in favor of the visitors.
Carey and Heitor closed out the first half by scoring on free position chances in the final two minutes leading up to the intermission, making Connecticut College's lead 9-5 at the half.
Balzotti scored two minutes into the second stanza to increase the Connecticut College lead to 10-5, but goals by Carey and Heitor narrowed the gap to 10-7 with 22 minutes left to play.
Heitor again cut the Connecticut College lead to three goals, 12-9, with an unassisted goal with 13 minutes remaining, but the Camels scored five of the game's last six goals to claim a 17-10 victory over Western.
For the game, Connecticut College held a 40-24 advantage in shots, and also had the advantage in ground balls, 11-6.
Western's starting keeper Missy O'Donnell (Bridgeport, Conn.) made five saves while surrendering eight goals, but was replaced by senior Alexa Lucchesi (Danbury, Conn.) who made seven saves. Sophomore Meg Raskin (Westwood, Mass.) made nine saves to pick up the win for Connecticut College.
The Camels return home to the Whaling City to host Eastern Connecticut State on Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. game.
