Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.—Senior midfielder Laurel Pascal (Greenwich, Conn.) scored three of her six goals in the opening 11:16 of regulation to lead the fourth ranked Middlebury College women's lacrosse team to a 17-6 NESCAC victory at Connecticut College here in New London today.
Senior Bridget Instrum (Granby, Mass.), Hollis Perticone (Norwalk, Conn.) and Alli Sciarretta (Wilton, Conn.) all contributed with two goals for the winning side. Junior attackwoman Mary O'Connell (Norwell, Mass.) finished with a goal and six assists in the triumph. Sophomore Evie Keating (Hanvover, N.H.) induced four Camel turnovers and had three ground balls for the visitors.
Rookie net-minder Kate Furber (Essex, Mass.) made four saves in the start, surrendering three goals in 45 minutes of work. Senior Madeline Kinker (Rye, N.Y.) contributed with 15 minutes of play in relief duty for the visitors.
Connecticut College senior Erin Moran (Lincoln, N.H.) and junior Tina Balzotti (Duxbury, Mass.) scored two goals each to spark the hosts in their season opener. Hannah Donegan (Great Falls, Va.) chipped in with a goal and an assist. Sophomore Madison Barker (Boston, Mass.) had one goal and eight draw controls for Connecticut College. Junior defender Blaire Rose (Setauket, N.Y.) stepped off the bench to contribute with two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Sophomore All-American Meg Raskin (Westwood, Mass.) collected 11 of her 13 saves in the opening half of action for the Camels.
Pascal put the Panthers on top 1:26 into regulation. O'Connell was the facilitator on the next two goals, making passes from behind the cage to assist Pascal and Sciarretta for scores. Middlebury built a 5-0 lead when Pascal netted her third goal of the half with 18:44 to go.
But the Camels answered with the next two goals to cut into the deficit. Donegan made a nice pass out in front to Balzotti, who flicked one in from point blank range with 11:43 remaining. Moran followed with an unassisted marker that trimmed the deficit to 5-2 with 8:27 to go in the opening half.
Middlebury responded by scoring the final seven goals of the half as a part of a 10-0 run. Pascal scored three more goals in the closing 6:21 of the half. She executed nicely on the 10th Panther goal, when she recovered a rebound of her own shot with a ground ball and stuffed one in.
The Camels were able to close out the game with some momentum by netting four of the final six scores. That should give them a boost as they prepare for their game against Springfield here Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
Middlebury is headed to the Empire State of New York this Tuesday where they will take on RPI in a 4:30 p.m. game.
