Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team used a 5-0 run at the start of the second half to pull away from Connecticut College and take a 17-7 victory in the regular season finale for both sides.
The Cardinals wrap up the season with a record 5-9 and a 2-8 mark in the NESCAC. They finished in a three-way tie for eighth place with Bowdoin and Williams but Williams College won the tie-breaker that was determined by random action to claim the eighth and final spot in the upcoming NESCAC Championship.
Connecticut College closed out the 2016 season with a record of 5-10 a 1-9 mark in conference action.
Junior Rachel Aronow (West Hartford, Conn.) had four goals to lead the Cardinals in the victory. She closed out the season with a team-best 31 points on 21 goals and 10 assists. Junior Meredith Smith (Ocean City, Md.), Liana Mathias (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Martha Harding (Woodside, Calif.) all contributed with three goals for the visitors.
Senior net-minder Nina Labovich (Alexandria, Va.) finished with seven saves for the winning side.
Senior Erin Moran (Lincoln, N.H.) wrapped up her senior year with two scores tonight to finish the season with 32 goals, three assists and 35 points. Junior Lacey Hale (Winchester, Mass.) scored twice while classmate Tina Balzotti (Duxbury, Mass.) registered a goal and an assist to close out the year with 28 goals and eight assists for a team-best 36 points.
Meg Raskin (Westwood, Mass.) made 12 saves in the cage.
Wesleyan held a 35-to-23 advantage in shots and carried a 24-to-13 edge in ground balls.
