Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team fell to Bowdoin by a 2-0 decision on Saturday afternoon at Freeman Field.
Connecticut College, which recognized its nine-member senior class during a pregame ceremony, outshot the Polar Bears by an 18-6 margin and attempted all six corner kicks in the match. The visitors, however, were able to capitalize twice on their limited opportunities in the first half. Morgen Gallagher buried a shot from the edge of the box at the midway point of the opening frame shortly after a free kick was taken to put the Polar Bears on the board, and Lizzie Sands doubled the margin in the 31st minute by finishing a pass from Gallagher.
Even though the Camels did not allow Bowdoin to attempt a shot in the second half, they were unable to find a rhythm offensively. Two corner kicks attempted by sophomore Sara Kogelmann (Slingerlands, N.Y.) in the waning minutes also couldn't be put past goalkeeper Rachel Stout, and the hosts had to settle for just their first home loss of the season.
Stout earned the victory between the pipes for Bowdoin (9-4-1, NESCAC 4-4-1) by only needing to make one save. Senior Bryanna Montalvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was charged with the loss after making one stop in the first half.
Connecticut College (11-2-1, NESCAC 6-2-1), which has already earned the right to host a NESCAC quarterfinal match next weekend, will look to lock up the second seed in the upcoming league tournament when it hosts Wesleyan on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 3:00 p.m. to conclude the regular season.
