Box Score MANSFIELD, Conn. – Three different players tallied a goal and the back line yielded only one shot to help propel the No. 16 Connecticut College women's soccer team to a convincing 3-0 victory over Eastern Connecticut State on Wednesday evening at the Mansfield Athletic Complex.
Sophomore Alyssa Kogelmann (Slingerlands, N.Y.) scored the opening goal of the match at the seven-minute mark for Connecticut College (8-1-1) when she successfully fired a shot past goalkeeper Kayla Labrecque from 40 yards away. The Camels then doubled their lead before the break in the 30th minute, as Lauren Steele (Westford, Mass.) finished a pass from Mackenzie Kingston (Charlotte, Vt.) by firing the ball to the right post and past a diving Labrecque.
The one-sided matchup dominated by the Camels carried over into the second half. Freshman Tori Kretzmer (Glastonbury, Conn.) took a feed from Kingston and had an open shot at the net that sailed just high in the 54th minute, and junior Alex Baltazar (Ludlow, Mass.) also had two good looks which went high and wide of the goal during the middle of the frame.
Connecticut College, however, showcased its depth to tally one more marker with many of its reserves on the field down the stretch. Shortly after senior netminder Bryanna Montalvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) bulldozed her way through a scrum of players to recover the ball following a Warrior corner kick, the Camels capitalized on a corner kick of their own when freshman Cate Howe (Newton, Mass.) headed home her first goal as a collegian off a cross that came from senior Alexa Tribelli (Cranston, R.I.) in the 87th minute of action.
Montalvo was able to pick up the shutout victory for Connecticut College without having to make a save, as the defense anchored by Kingston only allowed the Warriors to attempt one shot the entire match. In addition to Howe, underclassmen Amelia Andrews (Fairfield, Conn.), Julia Kelleher (Holden, Mass.), Amy Armata (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Christina Orr (Northboro, Mass.), Madison McAuliffe (Winchester, Mass.) and Katie DeCourcy (Seattle, Wash.) all provided important minutes to maintain possession and contribute to the team's fifth clean sheet of the season. Labrecque of Eastern Connecticut State (5-5-2) suffered the loss after making two saves and letting two balls get by her in the first half.
