Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Thirteen players found the back of the net and seven scored twice as the No. 20 Connecticut College men's lacrosse team raced to a convincing 19-2 victory over Johnson & Wales on Monday afternoon at Silfen Field.
Connecticut College (5-1) rattled off seven straight goals in a span of 7:23 during the first quarter and never looked back. The Wildcats got on the board when Eric Russo finished a pass from Ben Farrell on a man-up opportunity at the 3:30 mark, but the Camels had an answer and would eventually take a 12-2 lead into the break courtesy of a goal by Maxx Trotsky (Marblehead, Mass.) which extended the margin to double figures.
The Camels ended the game on an 11-0 run and did not surrender a goal in the second half. Freshman Charlie Bernicke (Shelburne, Vt.) most notably scored twice during the stretch, and the Camels ran away with the 17-goal victory.
Connecticut College outshot the Wildcats by a 64-27 margin overall, had a 45-22 advantage in ground balls and won 22 of the 25 faceoffs in the one-sided contest. Trotsky factored into a team-high four goals and was among 15 players to record a point. Senior Hunter Rosenthall (Chatham, Mass.) picked up the victory between the pipes by making 11 saves on 13 chances.
Johnson & Wales (1-6) was led by goalie Bradley Morris' 16-save effort. Owen Macca picked up five ground balls and caused three turnovers.
The Camels, which have been ranked 20th nationally by the USILA for the second straight week, will next host Colby on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
