Volleyball Splits Tri-Match With Eastern Connecticut State and Emerson

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Connecticut College volleyball team split a tri-match with host Eastern Connecticut State and Emerson on Saturday. The Camels first defeated the Warriors, 3-1, before falling to the Lions by a 3-0 score at Geissler Gymnasium.

Connecticut College 3, Eastern Connecticut State 1 (25-8, 25-21, 16-25, 25-22)

Connecticut College burst out to a 14-3 advantage in the opening set to establish control early by taking advantage of a plethora of Warrior errors. Despite dropping the third set, the Camels rebounded to take the fourth frame and the match by getting a pair of kills from junior Katie Howley (Scituate, Mass.) for their final two points.

Howley smashed a career-high 16 kills, while senior captain Grace McGee (Portland, Ore.) notched a double-double with 31 assists and 16 digs. Junior Elle Kass (Los Gatos, Calif.) contributed 12 digs and seven helpers from the libero position.

Emerson 3, Connecticut College 0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-11)

Emerson swept the Camels by most notably hitting over .400 in two of the three sets. The Camels held leads of 7-4 and 8-5 in the opening frame, but the Lions rattled off five unanswered and never trailed at any point for the remainder of the match. They built up leads of 7-0 and 14-2 in the third and final set en route to registering their fifth win of the season.

Sophomore Avery Light (Sudbury, Mass.) led the attacking effort with a team-leading nine kills on 22 swings. McGee tallied 14 assists, and Kass added nine digs.

Connecticut College (4-2) will next visit Western Connecticut State for a 6 p.m. tilt on Wednesday evening.
