NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Emily Angeli (South Kingstown, R.I.) converted a penalty kick with exactly two minutes remaining in double overtime to lift the Connecticut College women's soccer team to a wild 4-3 triumph over Coast Guard and its 19th Whale Cup victory in 20 meetings on Tuesday afternoon at Harkness Field.

With the teams playing through a 3-3 deadlock and time winding down in the second overtime, Connecticut College was awarded a penalty kick when senior captain Zoe Stublarec (Rockfall, Conn.) was tripped up by a Coast Guard defender in the upper left corner of the box. Angeli volunteered to take the shot, and the senior buried the ball in the bottom left corner of the net to give the Camels the sudden victory and keep them undefeated through five matches.

The Camels scored first when freshman Mya Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.) sent a through ball to junior Kat Norton (Hampton, Conn.), who capitalized on the breakaway to make it 1-0 midway through the first half. It was Johnson's first career helper and Norton's fifth goal of the young season.

But after a rather quiet opening 45 minutes on the scoreboard, the teams went on a scoring spree by combining to find the back of the net five times overall to eventually send the match into overtime. Coast Guard (1-5) surprisingly took the lead in the 61st minute, as Claire Hurley potted a loose ball after setting up Lizzie Miller for a header in the 47th off a corner kick from the right side.

Connecticut College, however, came right back. Freshman Ana Pavic (North Branford, Conn.) tied the game by finishing passes from Norton and junior Tori Kretzmer (Glastonbury, Conn.) at 70:04, and then Kretzmer found Norton on the left side less than three minutes later. Even though Hurley finished a short cross from Brielle Pearce to send the match to overtime, the Camels still prevailed by having Angeli come through in the clutch.

Junior Katy Pelletier (Topsfield, Mass.) picked up the win between the posts by making five saves for Connecticut College, which outshot the Bears by a whopping 40-16 margin. Coast Guard's Sarah Schollenberger did all she could in the losing effort by making a career-best 17 saves.

Connecticut College (5-0) will put its unbeaten record on the line when it visits No. 7 Amherst on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m.
