CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Four student-athletes posted wins in straight sets in leading the Connecticut College men's squash team to a 6-3 victory over St. Lawrence in the opening match for both schools at CSA Nationals on the campus of Harvard University on Friday afternoon.
Competing as the fourth seed in the Conroy Cup bracket, the Camels only dropped matches from the top three positions. Senior Winston Simone (New York, N.Y.) posted the most convincing victory, defeating his opponent from the No. 7 spot by scores of 11-2, 11-4, and 11-8. Sophomore Billy Fleurima (Bronx, N.Y.) won by marks of 11-6, 11-8, and 11-5 at No. 4, while seniors Samuel Piller (Charlottesville, Va.) and Mikey Rodriguez (New Haven, Conn.) only needed the minimum three sets to defeat their foes at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively. The Camels were also credited with wins at the bottom two spots of the lineup because a depleted Saints squad only brought seven players.
Connecticut College (9-10) will next face Dickinson in the semifinal round of the Conroy Cup at CSA Nationals tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
