NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Meredith Kenny (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was among three Camels to earn victories in singles and doubles play in leading the Connecticut College women's tennis team to a 7-2 triumph over Mount Holyoke on Sunday afternoon.
The tightly-contested dual featured one doubles match which was decided by a point and four singles matches which extended to three sets. Kenny came out on top of two tight matches by first teaming up with sophomore Brooke Scully (Winchester, Mass.) to outlast Ching-Ching Huang and Annissa Aamoum by an 8-7 score at No. 1 doubles. She also defeated Hannah Middleton at No. 6 singles by scores of 6-3, 1-6, and 10-8. Scully and classmate Allison Falvey (Wakefield, Mass.), meanwhile, earned convincing singles wins by identical scores of 6-2 and 6-2 from the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively.
Another notable performance by the Camels came from senior Rachel Weiss (Great Neck, N.Y.). She paired with classmate Alexandra Waldman (East Hampton, N.Y.) to win No. 3 doubles, 8-4, before taking down Huang individually at the top singles position by set scores of 7-5, 2-6, and 7-5. Senior Hayley Zukerberg (Newton, Mass.) rounded out the list of winners for the Camels by taking down Anya Gerasimova at No. 2 singles by marks of 6-3, 2-6, and 6-2.
Catherine Peabody was a double winner for Mount Holyoke (2-3). She earned a No. 2 doubles victory along with Gerasimova, 8-5, and also rallied to capture the No. 3 singles spot by marks of 6-7, 6-3, and 6-4.
Connecticut College (2-2) will have several weeks off from competition and next host Trinity on Saturday, March 28 at 10 a.m.
