Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.--Madeline Tank (Winnetka, Ill.) and Katie McMahon (Denville, N.J.) both scored first half scores to lead the 14th ranked Amherst College field hockey team to its third consecutive win, a 2-0 triumph at Connecticut College Wednesday night.
With the win, the Lord Jeffs close out the regular season with a record of 10-4 with a 6-4 mark in league games. The Camels finish up at 7-7 with a 4-6 record in the NESCAC.
Both teams will play road games Saturday in the first round of the NESCAC Championship Tournament.
The Lord Jeffs finish fifth and will visit fourth seeded Trinity College for a 1:00 p.m. game. The Camels finish eighth and will travel to Middlebury College to face-off against the number one team in the country for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
Connecticut College last win against Middlebury occurred on Nov 2, 2002 when three-time All-American Emily Huffman '04 scored the game-winner in overtime in New London.
Tank opened the scoring in the 12th minute when she found the back of the cage for her 11th goal of the season. Alex Philie (East Sandwich, Mass.) assisted on the marker.
Later on with 5:55 remaining, McMahon added some insurance with her 11th goal of the season. McMahon leads the Lord Jeffs with 29 points this fall.
Ali Holland (Watertown, Mass.) and Laura Sanderson (Hanover, N.H.) both had three shots for the hosts but the Camels could not generate any offense on this night.
Rachel Tannenbaum (Berwyn, Pa.) stopped 11 shots en route to her fourth shutout of the season. Becca Napolitano (Hamden, Conn.) made nine saves in the setback.
Shots were even at 11 aside but the Lord Jeffs enjoyed a 13-to-5 edge in corners.
