MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (Wesleyan Sports Information) -- Connecticut College scored twice in a span of 2:51 in the middle of the first period with senior Sam Schoenberger cashing in on what proved to be the game-winner at 11:26 as the Camels went on to post a 4-1 NESCAC win over Wesleyan in the first of back-to-back games between the in-state rivals here tonight. It was the eighth straight victory for the Camels over the Cardinals dating back to Jan. 31, 2009. The teams close out the series Sunday.
Schoenberger came up with a loose puck in the right circle and slapped home a shot to spot Connecticut College a 2-0 lead. She then assisted on the third Camel goal by winning a faceoff in the Wesleyan end, drawing the puck to sophomore Amanda Bogue, who moved centrally and lifted a slap shot over the glove hand of Wesleyan senior keeper Ashleigh Corvi at 8:23 of the second period. Schoenberger was one of two Camels to enjoy a multi-point night. The other was leading scorer senior Ariel DiPasquale, who netted her ninth of the year and fourth in the past two outings to get Connecticut College on the board first. Her shot from the left circle was deflected by a Wesleyan defender just enough to help the puck elude Corvi as the puck went surprisingly to her right, far off its original path.
Though Wesleyan cut the difference to 3-1 when freshman Laura Mead beat sophomore Kelsie Fralick at 17:10 of the second period with a slapper from the left circle that stayed along the ice and nestled inside the far post, Connecticut College made the final margin three goals at 3:02 of the final stanza. Junior Olivia Farrell won a battle for the puck in front of Corvi and found the back of the net. DiPasquale had an assist on the play, upping her seasonal point total to 14.
Corvi finished the game with 31 saves while Fralick collected 24.
