Connecticut College 3, Wesleyan University 2 OT Dumont Scores Game-Winner for Camels in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.  (January 20) -- Junior Courtney Dumont scored her third goal of the season, taking a centering pass from the right side by senior Samantha Schuffenecker and slipping a low backhander past Wesleyan senior goalie Ashleigh Corvi just 2:14 into the sudden-victory overtime period, making visiting Connecticut College a 3-2 winner here in women's ice hockey action.  The triumph gave the Camels a series sweep, having won the first meeting of the teams the day before, 4-1.  It also was the ninth straight victory for Conn over Wesleyan, dating back to 2009.
The Camels had knotted the score at 2-2 at 6:13 of the third period as senior Sam Schoeneberger netted her fourth goal of the year on a rebound scramble in front of the Cardinal net.   Wesleyan had overcome an initial 1-0 deficit with a pair of goals just :57 apart early in the second period.  The first came on the power play from sophomore Hannah Jellinek, as she redirected a pass by freshman Laura Wasnick from just above the right circle into the Connecticut College net, beating sophomore keeper Kelsie Fralick for her third of the season.  Less than a minute later, top scorer sophomore Jordan Schildhaus stuffed in a shot from the left side to give Wesleyan a 2-0 edge.  It was her eighth goal of the year.
Connecticut College had taken a 1-0 lead at 14:13 of the opening stanza when a flip shot by sophomore Amanda Bogue from the left point was deflected into the Wesleyan net by junior Olivia Farrell as the puck was about chest high at the time of the deflection.
This was the fifth time in the 52 all-time meetings between the teams, quite a few with Conn skating as a club program, that the Camels and Cardinals have gone into overtime and the first that the game did not end in a tie.  The squads were skating four-in-four during overtime as per the new rule in women's ice hockey this season.  Connecticut College outshot Wesleyan, 30-22, in the contest as Fralick made 20 saves and Corvi 27.
Wesleyan is back on the ice for a non-league game Tues., Jan. 22 against Plymouth St.  Next up for Connecticut College is a NESCAC game at Amherst Sat., Jan. 26.
