Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.—Junior forward Megan Fortier (Falmouth, Maine) scored a pair of second half goals to lead the Colby College field hockey team to a 3-0 triumph at Connecticut College Sunday.
The Mules improved their record 7-5 with a 2-5 mark in NESCAC play while the Camels fell to 4-7 with a 1-6 record in conference action.
Connecticut College celebrated the achievements of seniors Heidi Halsted (Mill Valley, Calif.) and Maggie Rakovic (Narragansett, R.I.) in a pre-game ceremony.
Colby out-shot the Camels 9-to-3 in the opening half but neither side could score in the first stanza.
But Colby got on the board 2:25 into the second half when Misha Strage (Westport, Conn.) collected a loose ball in a scramble out in front of the cage and tipped one in for the Mules.
The Camels nearly scored the equalizer with 29:34 remaining. Katlyn Paiva (Rehoboth, Mass.) made a nifty move with a backhanded shot but Colby College net-minder Sarah Evans (Cohasset, Mass.) was able to get a blocker on the shot.
The visitors tacked on another goal with 19:45 remaining. Fortier induced a Camel turnover by stepping into a passing lane and broke free in a one-on-one situation versus Ryley van der Velde (Louisville, Ky.) for a score.
Fortier closed out the scoring with 6:17 remaining with Rebecca Moore (Concord, Mass.) assisting.
Evans made 10 saves in the victory for the Mules while Van der Velde had eight stops for the Camels.
